Trust for London is an independent charitable foundation established in 1891 to tackle poverty and inequality in London. It is seeking to appoint a new trustee to join its board at the start of 2021.

Update as of Friday 15 January: APPLICATIONS ARE NOW CLOSED

The Trust has an endowment fund of £342 million as at December 2019. It makes grants tackling poverty and inequality totalling around £10 million each year and at any one time it is supporting up to 300 organisations; funding independent research; and providing knowledge and expertise on London’s social issues to policymakers and journalists.

We are looking for a suitably qualified financial professional, preferably an individual with experience of charity finance, to join our Board of Trustees as well as play a full on role on our Finance and Resources Committee. The Committee oversees the HR and IT functions of the Trust and experience in these areas would be advantagerous although not essential.

Candidates should be passionate about promoting effective approaches to tackling poverty and inequality in London. The Trust is committed to ensuring that its work at all levels reflects the diversity of London. We are keen to have board members that have lived experience of poverty and disadvantage in addition to the relevant skills.

Even if you have not considered being a trustee before now we still want to hear from you if you have the passion and skills to help the Trust. We provide support to anyone joining who is new to this type of role.

We are keen to welcome applications from groups who are currently underrepresented on the Board, in particular:

  • People under the age of 35;
  • Disabled people; and
  • People from Black and Minority Ethnic communities.

The board meets four times a year and Trustees are encouraged to serve on at least two of the board's committees, including a grants committee. The overall time commitment is between six and ten days a year. The Trust is based near Moorgate, London EC1 where normally all meetings are held in-person. Currently, the Trust’s Board and its committees meet virtually. Trustees are not paid but reasonable out of pocket expenses are met. Trustees are appointed for five years initially, renewable for a further five year term of office.
