Trust for London is an independent charitable foundation established in 1891 to tackle poverty and inequality in London. We are looking for two new co-optees to join the Trust’s Social Enterprise Committee.

The Trust has an endowment fund of £342 million as at December 2019. It makes grants tackling poverty and inequality totalling around £10 million each year and at any one time it is supporting up to 300 organisations; funding independent research; and providing knowledge and expertise on London’s social issues to policymakers and journalists.

About the roles

We are looking for two new co-optees to join the Trust’s Social Enterprise Committee:

Vacancy #1

The first should ideally have extensive experience in investing in Social Enterprises, likely as a fund manager.

Vacancy #2

The second should be someone based in a Voluntary Community Sector organisation/Social Enterprise with direct experience of raising and using social investment finance and dealing with the investors. We were envisaging this candidate to be an experienced CEO of a VCS organisation/social enterprise.

Candidates should be passionate about promoting effective approaches to tackling poverty and inequality in London. The Trust is committed to ensuring that its work at all levels reflects the diversity of London. We are keen to have board members that have lived experience of poverty and disadvantage in addition to the relevant skills.

Even if you have not considered being a trustee before now we still want to hear from you if you have the passion and skills to help the Trust. We provide support to anyone joining who is new to this type of role.

We are keen to welcome applications from groups who are currenly underrepresented on the Board, in particular:

  • People under the age of 35;
  • Disabled people;
  • People from Black and Minority Ethnic communities.

The Committee meets four times a year, plus ad hoc meetings as required to review investment opportunities. The Trust is based near Moorgate, London EC1 where normally all meetings are held in-person. Currently, all meetings are being held virtually. Co-optees are not paid but reasonable out of pocket expenses are met. Trustees are appointed for three years initially, renewable for a further two, three year terms of office.
