ELAN is a network of 60+ organisations working to help people in precarious, low-paid jobs understand more about their employment rights - and how to enforce them.
Who is ELAN for?
Any not for profit organisation helping people learn more about their employment rights - especially those in low-laid, insecure jobs - can join ELAN.
Many ELAN organisations offer one-off advice, carry out casework or campaign for change. Some might already have employment advisers or lawyers working as part of their team. However, community organisations offering more general support also benefit from the information and signposting opportunities offered by ELAN membership.
What does ELAN do?
Meetings
ELAN meets on ZOOM every four weeks on Thursdays or Fridays. Meetings are an opportunity to share information and good practice, identify policy issues and work together on appropriate responses. Our guests include ACAS, Ministry of Justice, Employment Judges and others in the employment advice sector. We aim to meet in person at least once a year. Support for advice providers
ELAN works to help advice services by raising awareness of pro bono services and other useful networks.
Sharing good practice
ELAN members and external organisations share expertise and ideas to help employment advice services support their clients. ELAN runs knowledge sharing sessions every month, as well as free ad hoc workshops and training for the advice sector.
ELAN mentoring programme
ELAN helps to pair member organisations with volunteers as part of a mentoring scheme. Mentors include retired employment judges, barristers and solicitors. ELAN also runs an in person mentoring programme workshop each year.
Contributing to policy development
ELAN regularly contributes to government consultations. The network also coordinates member and external organisations responses to policy making which affects workers' rights.
