London Unemployed Strategies
60 second overview
London Unemployed Strategies (LUS) exists to give unemployed people a voice. The group challenges current policies that negatively impact unemployed people, dispels negative stereotypes, and helps upskill unemployed people to bring about real change.
The group has been formed by people who are currently unemployed and their supporters, including the voluntary sector and trade unionists.
Our funding has been provided to LUS to continue their support offered to unemployed people as a group, which recognises the leadership of people with first-hand experience. This includes the running of their self-help 'Stand Up For Your Rights' sessions which bring together unemployed and employed workers to share the information, skills and resources they need, as well as supporting their campaigns work for an improved welfare benefits system.
The group are also part of the Trust for London initiative The Commission on Social Security led by Experts by Experience working to build consensus and produce recommendations on how the social welfare system could be improved.
For more information, visit the LUS website.
