Elahe studied sociology at City University and completed her Master degree on Voluntary Sector Studies from University of East London. She is a Director of a Community Centre in East London. She has over 20 years experience in the voluntary sector. She has been a Trustee f the Housing Association Charitable Trust, a member of the Advisory Committee of Comic Relief and a member of the Advisory Committee of Common Purpose.

Her other voluntary sector involvement includes: Trustee and Chair of the Evelyn Oldfield Unit; Trustee of Resource Unit for Mother Tongue and Supplementary Schools; Trustee and Co-chair of Asylum Rights Campaign; Trustee of Refugee Women’s Association; Trustee of Executive Committee of the Refugee Council; a member of th the steering group for Local Community Forum.
