Maggie Baxter has worked in the voluntary sector for over 30 years having been in the grant-giving field for nearly 20 of these. During that time she was Deputy Chief Executive and Grants Director at Comic Relief where she was responsible for the allocation of all Red Nose Day income. She was seconded whilst at Comic Relief to set up the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund. Prior to that she was London adviser to the Baring Foundation, and a grants officer in the Grants Unit of Camden Council. She has also been a grant seeker whilst director of Dame Colet House Settlement in east London and most recently as Executive Director of WOMANKIND Worldwide. As executive director of WOMANKIND she was responsible for the strategic direction of the organisation, resource management, fundraising and communications. Maggie left WOMANKIND earlier this year and is now undertaking consultancy work in the voluntary sector along with exploring the establishment of a women's fund.

Maggie is totally committed to the voluntary sector and has both a knowledge and understanding of policy issues affecting Londoners having been a London resident since 1972. She has been involved in her local community in Camden as Chair of governors of a primary school, the PTA of a comprehensive and the local community centre. She is particularly interested in the experience of new arrivals in London especially as many come from countries central to her work at WOMANKIND. Maggie is also a trustee of the Hilden Charitable Fund, Dance United, Green Belt Movement International and Women for Refugee Women. In her spare moments Maggie likes going to the theatre and films, playing tennis and keeping up with her family.
