IIngrid was educated at the LSE and Manchester University. She originally worked in educational psychology in England and America then switched to criminology and spent a number of years working as a psychologist in the Prison Service.
Her subsequent Home Office career spanned policy development in fire prevention, policing, suicide prevention and the inspection of the criminal justice system. She now acts as an independent assessor in the recruitment and promotion of civil servants.
